Minnesota to host the only 8-team state tournament in the country.

MENASHA, WI – Aug. 9, 2016 – The 2017 Midwest Cup event will be held at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Willmar, MN. Eagle Creek Golf Club is known to be one of the premier golf courses in West-Central Minnesota and is a perfect match for the Midwest’s premier Mid-Amateur Golf Tournament. Team Minnesota along with PGA Professional Joel Jacobson will be hosts for the 2017 event.

Eagle Creek Golf Club original back-nine was designed in 1931. The back-nine is shorter in length with smaller greens giving this side “an old-school golf” feel. The front-nine was built in 1963 and renovated in 1993 offering a more “modern feel” with more length and larger greens. The course is known for its tree-lined fairways, consistently-good greens and several risk-reward holes that are exciting to play. Par for the 6400-yard course is 72 which includes (3) Par-3’s and (3) Par-5’s leaving (12) Par-4’s.

The club continues to be the site of The Annual Lakeland Tournament, Minnesota Golf Association events and Minnesota PGA Junior events. It is the perfect match for the Eight-State Midwest Cup, which provides the unique opportunity for Mid-Amateur golfers to compete and commiserate against the best players in the Midwest. Over one-sixth of the field are former State Amateur Champions with well over 100 state championships held by the contestants.

The 2017 Championship will be held July 27-30, 2017. Primary Tournament Sponsor yet to be determined, Foot-Joy, GlobalGolfPost.Com, the players and future yet to be named sponsors have joined forces to support the only major amateur tournament that raises money for charities. The primary beneficiary of this year’s event will be the Minnesota (Junior) Golf Association, the Willmar High School Boys and Girls Golf Teams, the junior golfers at Eagle Creek Golf Club will all benefit.

The Midwestern Golf Association is a tax exempt not-for-profit entity developed in 2004 to grow amateur golf. By providing a premier amateur and a premier AJGA Junior event, it supports the efforts of state golf associations to promote golf through hosting mid-amateur golf championships, promotes interstate ambassadorship and fellowship, and raises funds for golf charities committed to juniors in golf.

“Our commitment to amateur golf begins with identifying the top players through the state golf association player of the year rankings, giving them the opportunity to represent their state in a team competition, and offering a first class one-of-a-kind experience to the players and their wives while raising funds for junior golf charities,” says Eric Hjortness, Executive Director of the Culver’s Midwest Cup. “With the help of our sponsors and the players’ contributions we are able to reach our vision of growing amateur golf.”

Primary financial support of the program comes from the generous contributions of Global Golf Post, Foot-Joy, Ping, PGA Professional Steve Stricker, and the players themselves who are dedicated to growing the game of golf. Other funding comes from golf companies, golf courses, and corporate sponsors.
